cover 1868 (30 May) blue wrapper addressed to Shanghai "p Ganges" bearing 1865 CC 8c. (blunt corner perf.) tied by "Y1" in black, the flap shows clear strikes of despatch and arrival (5.6) c.d.s. which opens out well for display. Good to fine and a very early example of the "Y1" cancellation. Photo

Note: Although Webb suggests that the "Y1" was not used until 1869 because the mail was cancelled by "B62" in Hong Kong until then, however, as this cover was sent to Shanghai it was necessary for it to be cancelled in Yokohama.
