A PAIR OF MING-STYLE YELLOW-GROUND BLUE AND WHITE DISHES
ENCIRCLED YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD

Each decorated in the center with a bouquet of ribbon-tied lotus and water weeds, surrounded by a frieze of composite foliate scroll in the well and a band of classic scroll at the rim, repeated below a similar frieze on the exterior and a keyfret border just below the rim, all painted in cobalt-blue of rich tone with simulated 'heaping and piling' reserved on an opaque lemon-yellow ground, the formal borders under a glaze of translucent pale green colour

Lot Essay

One of a pair of Yongzheng dishes of this size was included in the Kau Chi Society Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Ceramics, Hong Kong, 1981, Catalogue, no. 155, and the pair was sold Christie's London, 10-13 December 1982, lot 526. A similar Yongzheng-marked dish was sold in our New York Rooms, 3 December 1992, lot 339; another from the collection of Mrs. James Alsdorf sold in these Rooms, 23 March 1993, lot 739.
