This shape is derived from an early Ming prototype usually painted with dragons. It is very rare to find a Qianlong-marked moon flask of this form painted with a lotus scroll. Compare with the flask painted with a variegated floral scroll within similar borders illustrated in Chinese Porcelain, The S. C. Ko. Tianminlou Collection, pl. 65; and other examples in these Rooms, 19 January 1988, lot 319 and 1 October 1991, lot 958.
