Inlaid overall with ash feather-banding, the arched bolection cornice above a pair of doors inlaid with arches, enclosing three removable shelves, one later, the sloping flap enclosing a well and an arched door flanked by eight small drawers, four concave-fronted, and six pigeon-holes, above a simulated drawer and four long drawers, with a shaped apron, on bun feet, the bun feet originally with additional socle

Lot Essay

The cabinet's cornice is arched and hollowed in the Louis XIV manner popularised by Daniel Marot (d.1752) 'architect' to King William III. In particular it relates to a bed-cornice pattern illustrated in his Nouveau Livre Licts, circa 1703 (plate 24) and also in his Oeuvres, 1712.
