'A supreme sporting car for the discerning', was Motor Sport's conclusion after an extended road test of a 230SL cabriolet in 1965. The type had been introduced at the 1963 Geneva Salon as a beautifully appointed and comfortable successor to the well-regarded 300 and 190SL, its angular, imposing lines set-off by an elaborate fully lined hood and/or unique 'pagoda' removable hardtop. Although very much a luxurious touring car, with automatic transmission and power steering listed as options, the 230SL had a top speed of 120 mph and specially prepared examples enjoyed some success in the gruelling Liege-Sofia-Liege rally. On this model Mercedes adopted ingenious low- pivot swing-axle suspension which made it possible to provide a more supple ride yet retain high conering power. Today the 230SL is not overshadowed by its more responsive steering, nimble handling and acceptable driving economuy. The 230SL was one of that select band of 1960s cars which moved seamlessly from the current model to classic status. It is an extremely handsome and usable collector's automobile with a growing following.

The history of this particluar car is not known; the cosmetic condition is average, although the hood is in poor condition. Although we have not had the opportunity to test drive the car, it is said to be in good running condition.
