Rectangular box of semi-translucent brown agate, the cover decorated with a pierced rocaille gold cagework mount chased with c-scrolls, flowers and stylized shells, the side corners engraved with reeded gold pilasters, reeded gold mounts with slightly raised reeded wavescroll thumbpiece
95 mm. (3.3/4 in.) wide

Lot Essay

The partly rubbed date-letter is either "V", "X" or "Y" dating this box between 1736 and 1738.
Michel Creuzet (or Croiset) struck his mark in 1692 and died in 1743. He was warden of the Parisian goldsmiths guild 1717-1718.
