From 1917 until 1959, the House of Boivin was run by Jeanne Boivin, widow of the founder, in close cooperation with her daughter, Germaine, and designer Juliette Moutard, all of whom had a predilection for pieces inspired by the animal kingdom. Lions naturally played a premiere role. Nonetheless, birds were well-represented. One of the most fantastic creations was the impressive-sized pavé-set diamond and calibré-cut cabochon sapphire pigeon's wing created for Daisy Fellowes in 1938. This swan clip brooch, with its two-toned sapphire plumage and pavé-set diamond scrolling neck, is amongst Boivin's more elegant jewels and, along with the earclips, provides a lovely example of the vivid imaginations of the female trio.
