An overdoor: Putti desporting on clouds by a vase on pedestal

A noted interior painter of The Hague, where he studied with the Swiss artist Johann Heinrich Keller (1692-1765), Van der Aa had many patrons including William IV for whom he executed a number of works for his residence in The Hague. The present lot shows the artist's indebtedness to Franois Boucher, whose work he must have studied during a visit to Paris circa 1770.
