Painted overall with a white, piebald and dark horse trotting in a circle, reserved on a blue-washed key-fret pattern ground below a wavy brown-edged rim (minute rim frittings)

Lot Essay

This design is inspired by Tianqi Ko-sometsuke dishes for the tea ceremony. For Tianqi proto-types, see Ko-sometsuke, Monochrome Section, p.155, nos. 610-613. It also shows that it is rare to find a piebald horse in the group.
