Lot Essay

Henry Dasson (1825-1896), the celebrated Parisian ébéniste and bronzier had workshops at 106, rue Vielle-du-Temple and specialised in the production of Louis XIV, XV and XVI style furniture.

In 1871 he bought the workshop and stock from the widow of Charles-Guillaume Winckelsen, who had established a reputation for furniture of the finest quality. Dasson continued with this acclaim and exhibited at both the 1878 and 1889 Paris Expositions Universelles and it may be that these superb cabinets, which bear the date 1878, were shown at the Exposition of that year. Dasson closed his distinguished workshop in 1894.
