Lot Essay

This shape was imitated from English earthenware models, and was probably destined for the English or American market. A similar example, but of a slightly more rounded shape, is in the Rijksmueum Collection, Amsterdam, op.cit, 1997, p.264, no.306. See J. A. Lloyd Hyde, op.cit., 1964, pl.VII, fig.6, p.52 for the similar jug in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
