A PAIR OF LARGE IVORY CARVINGS OF LUOHANS
19th century
Each figure deeply carved into the curve of an elephant's tusk, standing on a cylindrical rockwork base, with bald forehead, expressive bearded face, bulging eyes and open mouth, the long hair falling in curls onto the shoulders, dressed in long-sleeved loose hanging garments, one holding a vase of peony to his chest and supporting his right foot on a deer, the other with a Buddhistic lion and long ribbon in his arms standing with his raised left foot resting on a kneeling figure, age cracks and patination
