Lot Essay
The arms are those of d'Aguilar of London impaling Lousada of Jamaica. See D. S. Howard, op.cit., pp.425 and 631 for two other services made for this family, but unlike the present lot, these also bear the d'Aguilar crest. The families of d'Aguilar and Lousada were wealthy plantation owners in Jamaica and related by marriage. A pair of sauce-boats and stands from this service was sold in our New York Rooms, 30 January 1993, lot 35.
