Lot Essay

The Hon. Colonel and Mrs. Greville Howard were among de Wint's most regular patrons and devoted friends. During the autumn, the Howards would often lend de Wint their house, Castle Rising, in Norfolk.
It is possible that the present drawing was once in their collection.
