A watercolour of the same view by Marston, dated 1916 and inscribed 'The Coast of Elephant Island (Evening), one of the few bright evenings we experienced during the time we were on Elephant Island', is in the Scott Polar Research Institute.
Marston was Shackleton's official artist on the Imperial Trans-Antarctic expedition of 1914-1916 and was marooned with the majority of the crew of the Endurance on Elephant Island from 15 April to 30 August 1916.
