A PAIR OF GILTWOOD WALL BRACKETS AND A PAIR OF IMARI OCTAGONAL JARS AND COVERS
The vases early 18th Century
The brackets each with a shaped platform with lappeted edge resting on the wings of an eagle standing inside a scallop shell, above a pierced scrolled-acanthus tapering apron;
The vases each decorated in underglaze blue and gilt with shishi and ho-ho birds among a dense forest of bamboos and flowers, the gilt enhancing the contours of the designs, the shoulders with four medallions alternating flower designs and ho-ho birds, the foot with a band of lappets, the covers similarly decorated with large octogonal knob finials, both damaged, one restored
The brackets: 23 in. (58.5 cm.) high; 24¼ in. (61.5 cm.) wide
The vases: 24½ in. (62 cm.) high (4)

The late Robert Maxwell, Maxwell House, sold Sotheby's London, 14 February 1992, lots 20 (wall brackets; £13,200) and 92 (vases; £7,700).
