'La Libellule', a 'marqueterie-de-verre', carved and applied glass coupe

The milky/white, caramel coloured glass superbly applied and carved with a dragonfly swooping amongst a cloud of yellow mayflies, the translucent green dragonfly's body fully speckled with silver-foil inclusions, the applied blue eyes also with inclusions, the mottled chocolate brown intercalaire wings very finely carved with veining, raised on stepped flaring 'marbled' foot

Lot Essay

The smaller version of 'La Libellule' is represented in The Neumann Collection (sold at Christie's Geneva, 11 November 1984), the D-Museum and Kitazawa Museum in Japan. One example remains in private hands.
