The moulded rectangular top above a frieze drawer, fitted for writing, on chamfered square legs

Provenance
Supplied to the 5th Duke of Bolton (d.1765) for Hackwood.
By descent until sold in 1935 with Hackwood to William Berry, 1st Viscount Camrose (d.1954).
Thence by descent.

Lot Essay

This table is one of four in the sale that are the model of bedroom writing-table that furnished all but the grandest bedrooms at HAckwood in the mid-1760s. The others are lots 310-312 in the sale.
In the 1905 inventory the tables of this model are identifiable in various bedrooms as as: 'A 3ft. Old English Mahogany Writing Table fitted drawer with compartments 2 brass handles on square legs'.
