Harriet Elizabeth Georgina Howard married George Granville Leveson-Gower in 1823. For many years she was Mistress of the Robes and a great friend of Queen Victoria.

The celebrated portrait sculptor, Matthew Noble (d.1876) executed a bust of Harriet, Duchess of Sutherland, in 1870 (now at Castle Howard), two years after the latter's death. A Parian version of the bust was produced by Minton in 1871.
