2° (510 x 350mm.) Engraved title, 2pp letterpress advertisement, 40pp text, 102 double-page engraved maps, (of 108), all on guards, each with contemporary title stamps on verso and numbered through in a contemporary hand. (Lower corners of early leaves slightly soiled.) Modern sheep-backed boards.

The maps in this atlas include 12 on ancient geography (nos 1-12), the remainder are of various parts of the world. The Atlas Universel was Robert de Vaugondy's principal atlas first published in 1750, soon after he had set up in business in Paris. In 1760 he was appointed Royal Geographer to the French court.
