Lot Essay

This drawing is from an album made by Valckenborch during a journey along the Danube and in Tyrol in 1598-9. The album was formerly in the collection of Archduke Friedrich and then in the Albertina, Vienna, before it was sold to the art dealer Nebehay in 1920.
Other drawings from this album, also with the stamp L. 44a, were sold at Christie's Amsterdam, 12 November 1990, lots 64-5.
