'Orps having the Time of his Life'

Although this sketch of Orpen in the trenches in tin-hat, fur-jacket and rucksack (but no trousers) is dated Christmas 1916, he did not actually go to France until April 1917. The sketch was therefore drawn from imagination and given as a gift to his friend, Captain Nepean (see lot 27).
