HOMER (?8th century B.C.). Ilias. Translated by Laurentius Valla. Brescia: Baptista Farfengus, for Franciscus Laurinus, 6 September 1497.
Super-chancery 2° (309 x 211mm). 90 leaves (collation as BMC). Roman type 1:100, 46 lines, first initial space with printed guide-letter. Initials supplied in alternating red and blue, some MS guide-letters. (A few small marginal wormholes in first and final leaves.)
BINDING: contemporary russet blind-tooled goatskin, bound for Antonio Pillone by Belluno Bindery A, the sides panelled with triple fillets, borders and central star formed from a repeated half-diamond tool, cinquefoil in outer border and clustered in central panel, the undecorated spine with 2 sets of cords, five brass bosses to each cover (two missing), one (of 2) fore-edge clasp fastening on lower cover, a pair of vellum endleaves (slight worming at spine).
