Aldine 8° (161 x 93mm). Dolphin and anchor device on first and last pages, initial spaces with guide-letter. Italic type 1:80. (One word of title replaced, faint dampstain at upper margin of first few leaves.) Contemporary Italian olive green morocco over thin pastepaper boards, tooled in silver-gilt and blind, the sides panelled with triple fillets, small leaf ornament tool at corners, title lettered on front cover 'C SVETO NIUS', edges gilt and gauffered to a knotwork pattern, traces of four pairs of ties, (binding slightly rubbed, joints and spine restored).
First Aldine edition, dedicated to Jean Grolier (1479-1565, bibliophile and later Aldine agent at Paris). The binding has retained its attractive colour. Adams S-2031; Renouard 1516.5 ('assez rare').
