MANZONI, Alessandro (1785-1873). Autograph letter signed to Giacomo Padovani, Milan, 15 October 1827, one page, 4to, integral leaf addressed to 'Signor Ingegnere Giacomo Padovani' at Bergamo (splitting in centre fold, seal tear, slight discolouration), and an autograph envelope and inscribed carte de visite.
A courteous reply to his correspondent's letter on a publishing matter, declining a request from Signor Mazzoleni for permission to introduce copies of one of his writings or 'yarns' ('quella mia tiritera'), since he has given the right to Signor Vincenzo Ferrario and Mazzoleni would not be able to obtain the same terms from the bookseller in Turin.
Padovani is mentioned by Manzoni in earlier published letters to Cesare Turati in Milan (Lettere ed. A. Chiari and F. Ghisalberti, 1970, pages 149 and 171). The present letter is unpublished.
