An oak and inlaid chest, Welsh, late 17th century
the moulded plank lid with batton hinges, the front inlaid overall with chevron banding and with four fielded panels applied with cushion mouldings and initialled and dated D.M. 1692, above two dummy drawers similarly fielded and moulded, above a moulded apron, on stile feet, the sides with similar panels -- 50in. (127cm.) wide
