the beast standing four square on a rectangular base, its braying head tilted backwards with nostrils flaring and mouth open, laden with saddle bags and a saddle cloth, decorated and painted in coloured pigments with grotesque masks -- 8½in. (21.5cm.) high, possibly Tang Dynasty, carved and pierced wood stand.
