An exhibition standard 2in. scale live steam coal fired model of the Ruston 5hp. class SH single cylinder two speed four shaft General Purpose Traction Engine 'Boaz' Regn. No A1972, built by Harry Paviour 1996
with brazed copper boiler with fittings including water gauge with gauge glass protector, pressure gauge, safety, blower, injector, whistle, waterlift, clack and blowdown valves. Engine details include cylinder 1½in. bore x 2½in. stroke, studded stuffing boxes, trunk type crosshead guide with drain pipe, displacement and Foster mechanical lubricators, Stephenson's link reverse, bolted and wedged big end with split brasses, eccentric driven feed pump and bypass, two road speeds and spoked flywheel. Chassis details include worm and roller chain steering, spud pan, leaf sprung front axle, spoked, straked wheels with vulcanised rubber tyres, footplate controlled damper, cable drum, cable and fair leads, waterlift with suction pipe and rose, band brake to fourth shaft and wooden footboard with toolbox, padlock and key, ladder, bucket and hurricane lamp. Further details include external feed water pipe, spark arrester, whistle, injector, tow chains and pins, bearing oil pots with screw caps, detailed front and rear lamps with bull's eye lenses, mud doors and tender washout plates, the whole finished in two shades of green with red and orange lining, black, red and polished brightwork with etched makers and instruction plate -- 22¾ x 35in. HISTORICAL NOTE
Harry Paviour was awarded the Gold Medal at the Model Engineer Exhibition, London 1991. He was subsequently asked by A.J. Reeves and Co. (Birmingham) Ltd. to build a traction engine from their drawings and castings and this model is the result of that commission. The model was awarded 'Best in Show' Harrogate M.E.S. 1996. 'Boaz' meaning 'In strength' has been steamed once, after which painting was carried out.
