A GRAECO-ROMAN GOLD BEAD NECKLACE
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D.
With central repoussé gold pendant disc decorated with a head in three-quarter view surrounded by rope pattern border, flanked by two suspension loops attached to a spherical gold bead and polyhedral glass imitating lapis lazuli bead necklace, restrung on modern wire 12.5/8 in. (32 cm.) long

Reputedly excavated by Sir Charles Walston, a Professor of Classical Archaeology and former Keeper of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge: formerly sold for the benefit of the Institute of Archaeology, London, at Christie's, 11 July 1990, lot 360.
