A Highly Unusual Emerald and Diamond Bangle
The dramatically stylised bangle set with an antique Indian octagonal-cut emerald and eight graduated rectangular-cut emeralds to one side, the other side set with cabochon emeralds and diamond accents all to the hinged bangle of accentuated scroll design with circular-cut diamond border detail and mystery clasp, 15cm. inner circumference, with a red leather fitted case by Cartier, circa 1945
The octagonal emerald and emerald beads in this extraodinary bangle are typical of old Indian cutting. These stones would probably have been sent to London by their Indian owner for mounting in the "European" Style so popular in the Art Deco period. It was Cartier that was famed for their extraordinary creations using old Indian-cut emeralds
