Lot Essay

This lot comprises illustrations by an Indian artist, after a number of French artists including Jacques Barraband, Coenraad-Jacob Temminck, Nicolas Robert and Jean-Baptiste Audebert.
These artists worked on some of the most important publications on ornithology in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
The bird illustrated above is known as the 'Parkinson'.
