A SET OF ELEVEN LIMOGES ENAMELS OF ROMAN EMPERORS
Five turned to sinister, six turned to dexter, each wearing a laurel garland and inscribed around the upper borders in gilt, mounted in five giltwood frames with green-painted grounds
The plaques 4in. high, 3in. wide, the largest frame 11in. high, 19in. wide

Lot Essay

These plaques are executed in the style of Jacques Laudin (1627-1695), who along with his son, executed several series of portrait medallions of the Twelve Caesars. The eleven emperors represented are: Julius Caesar (d. 44BC), Augustus (27BC-14AD), Tiberius (14AD-37AD), Caligula (37AD-41AD), Claudius (41AD-54AD), Galba (68AD-69AD), Otho (69AD-69AD), Vitellius (69AD-69AD), Vespasian (69AD-79AD), Titus (79AD-81AD), Domiton (81AD-96AD). Emperor Nero (54AD-68AD) is missing.
