A WELL-CARVED IVORY BOX OF GOURD FORM**
19th century
Each half carved on the exterior with vertical lobes and with insects amidst leafy vines trailing down the sides from the gnarled stem at one end, the box opening to reveal figural scenes carved in high relief on each side of the interior, one depicting an attendant bringing wine to two scholars playing weiqi in a pine grove, the other depicting ladies in boats in a lotus pond while others watch from a pavilion, the ivory with some pale ochre staining
