NAPOLEON I. Letter signed ("N") as Emperor to General Berthier, Paris, 29 January, 1811. 1 page, 4to, 230 x 185 mm. (9 x 7 in.), minor wear to corners. Napoleon orders the evacuation of Spanish prisoners from the French stronghold at Pau, instructing that the removal occur, "under the pretext of sickness, or any pretext at all." This just days after the beginning of the first seige of Badajoz. Berthier was particulary useful to Napoleon as a means of dispersing written orders to subordinate commanders.
