Lot Essay

The above lot is a model of a proposed design for the Pistrucci Waterloo Medal. The medal was originally intended to be 140mm diameter, and it was to be issued by the Prince Regent to the heads of Allied countries that had participated in the downfall of Napoleon. After much dispute as to who would ultimately design the medal, the idea was abandoned in 1849.
