Lot Essay

The subject matter and cream-colored enameled base of this lamp are representative of Handel's attempts to seasonally market their lamps, in this case for "the cheerful cretonnes and chintzes of a summer home." cf. Robert DeFalco, et. al., Handel Lamps: Painted Shades and Glassware, 1986, pp.140-141, for illustrations of this model, and a period illustration of the lamp in House Beautiful, June 1921
