Please note the following: A closely related set of four wall-lights in the form of ribbon-tied laurel branches, by Francois Thomas-Germain and dated 1756, formerly in the collection of the Earl of Rosebery, Mentmore, is illustrated in S. Eriksen, Early Neo-Classicism in France, London, 1974, pp. 349-350, fig. 202. Two of the set bear inventory marks from the chteau de Compine although they do not appear in the 1764 inventory.
