Lot Essay

Julia Grant, grand-daughter of American President Ulysses S. Grant, married Prince Michael Cantacuzne, Count Speransky. Their marriage was the event of the day, and a number of gifts were from the firm of Faberg. She is one of the earliest recorded American clients of Faberg visiting Russia in 1900 with Henry C. Walters on his yacht Narada. In fact, an important piece of Tiffany favrile glass presented to the couple was then sent to Faberg to be mounted in silver.
