Lot Essay

The signature on the plaque is probably that of the sculptor Jean-Charles-Nicolas Brachard (1786-1830), who worked at Svres from 1782-1824. His younger brother, Jean-Nicolas-Alexandre also worked at the factory.
These gueridons are based on a model produced by Adam Weisweiler. One similar also in thuya wood, the top centering a slightly larger Svres biscuit plaque is illustrated in Pierre Kjellberg, Le mobilier Franais du XVIIIe sicle, Paris, 1989, p.868.
