FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of the first large table of decimal logarithms, and the work from which modern tables descend. "Briggs learned of logarithms from their inventor John Napier, with whom he worked on the development of logarithms during the two years before Napier's death" (Norman). The first part is a dissertation on the nature and use of logarithms, and includes a description of the parts taken by Napier and Briggs in developing them. The second part consists of tables of 30,000 logarithms from 1-20,000 and 90,000-100,000. STC 3739; Norman 339.
