FIRST EDITION of Tryon's treatise, which as the title states, is "recommended to Parents, Nurses, Tutors, and all others concerned in the Education of Children." Tryon's work is notable for its liberal attitude towards discipline and language training. Tryon wrote works on mystical philosophy and dietetics and founded the movement known as "Tryonism," which was characterized by temperance, pacifism, vegetarianism and religious mysticism.
