Provenance
Sold with this lot is a transcript of a letter from Mary Pennefather, grand daughter of Sir Joseph Desirée Tholozon KCMG, doctor to Nasser Ud Din, Shah of Persia in the late 19th century, to her grandchild. She explains her family history in some detail and supplies a family tree. The coat is not mentioned in the letter. However, the quality and construction of this coat is very similar to that shown in contemporary portraits of Nasser ud Din, suggesting that the provenance may well be correct.
