Album containing ninety-five cartes-de-visite, six cabinet cards and four albumen prints, sizes approx. 2.5/8 x 4.3/8 in. or the reverse, several inscribed in ink/pencil and the majority with photographers' printed credits on mounts or on verso, the cartes-de-visite and cabinet cards loosely inserted in pre-cut window mounts, several trimmed to oval, each identified and dated on original printed labels and several annotated in pencil in a later hand on mounts, the albumen prints mounted on card and then on front and back free ends, inscribed Photograph album of Geo. Albert Augustus Walker in pencil in a later hand on front blank, Indian carved wood boards with ivory mosaic border lined in purple silk, g.e., 4to.

Lot Essay

A well-annotated and attractive Indian album compiled by a well-connected British traveller, probably an army officer. Portraits, several taken in India, are of British & European aristocrats and military leaders. Sitters are identified as including General Count Dehayes, the Governor of Astrakhan, Jonkhur Muster Nahuys Kontroleur of Java, Lord Eliot, Sir Morrison Barlow Bart., 7th Hussars, Comte Reynaud de Choiseul, the Earl of Harrington, Count Augusto Fantoni, the Marquis of Bute, the Marquis and Marchioness of Queensberry, le Baron de Lindenfels, Comte Martin de Becheret, Comte Alex. Larderel, le Duc de Monchy and others.
