Lot Essay

H.M.S. 'Cricket' was one of twelve Insect Class river gunboats, all laid down between 1915 and 1916. They displaced 625 tons; measured 237½' x 36' x 4' and boasted two 12 pounders; their triple expansion engines produces 2,000h.p. and were capable of 14 knots. It is thought this chest was made from wood used aboard 'Cricket' when she was broken up
