Lot Essay

Franz von Stuck (1863-1928). Studied at the Munich academy (1882-84). A painter, he contributed illustrations to Fliegende Blätter and became a leading exponent of Jugenstil. His sculptures include various busts of women, athletes, amazons and neo-classical pieces such as The Wounded Centaur and Salome.
