Contemporary Italian goatskin over pastepaper boards, blind-stamped arabesque border, fleurons at corners and center (slight wear at extremities, lacking two fore-edge ties).
FIRST EDITION of an early and influential guide to the antiquities of Rome. Marliani's work was reprinted numerous times into the 17th century; the next edition, printed at Lyons also in 1534, was dedicated to Rabelais, and the third edition (see next item) contained illustrations.
