A VERY RARE AND IMPRESSIVE PAIR OF EMBROIDERED CURTAINS
CIRCA 1920
Each panel of pink silk damask finely embroidered in mirror image using the Peking knot stitch in coloured silks and couched gilt threads with a large majestic phoenix, pheasants, bat, butterflies, deer and stock amidst a ground with the flowers of the four seasons, custard apples, pineapples and other fruits, over a double border with fish and asters, and flowers and bird panels

The curtains were used to adorn the 'red and gold' bridal bed. It is unusual to find a pair in such pristine condition
