Lot Essay

This inkstand is a reproduction of the famous inkstand used at the signing of the Declaration of Independence and of the Constitution, originally made by Philadelphia silversmith Philip Syng, Jr. in 1752 for the Provincial Assembly of Pennsylvania. It is now at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
