Published in Lords Taverners Fifty Greatest (1983) where Bert Sutcliffe -- of Auckland, Otago, Northern districts and New Zealand -- is described as "a great opening batsman and one of the finest left-handers of his generation, he was a classically correct player with a gloriosu range of strokes all round the wicket. His cover driving off the back foot was a particular delight to all but the opposition." Sutcliffe was born on 17th November 1923, and made over 17,000 runs in a first class career lasting from 1942 to 1966.
