This drawing probably dates from 1822 when Williams exhibited a work of this title in his one man show in Edinburgh, no.42. Another watercolour of the same title was in his exhibition in 1826, although it is possible that it may be the same work. The drawing shows (from left to right) the Temple of Vespasian, the Senate House, the Temple of Saturn with its seven columns, the Temple of Antonius and Faustina, the Temple of Romulus, the Colosseum, the Church of S. Francesca Romana, the Column of Phocas, the Arch of Titus and the Temple of Castor and Pollux.
Another version of this subject dated 1828 and of similar size is in the collection at Yale.
